WhatsApp Updated Group Privacy Settings Rollout- "My Contacts Except"
WhatsApp has a new updated Group Privacy Settings has been getting new changes recently. The Latest update prevents your contacts from adding you to their groups without your consent, no more being added to random groups just because they have your phone number or are part of your contact list.
Tuesday 5th, WhatsApp said it has started rolling out this feature globally, some have received it already on their WhatsApp Application for Android and iOS devices. In Addition, like other WhatsApp privileges, you can still decide who gets to add you to groups, it can be only your contacts or exceptions of contacts - "My Contacts Except...".
We've talked about this feature in the blog before, but then it was in beta, now it has fully rolled out to all users.
1. Open WhatsApp.
2. Click on the three dots located at the Top Right of the App.
3. Click Settings.
4. Click Accounts.
5. Now Click on Privacy > Groups.
6. You will see three options
- Everyone.
- My Contacts.
and the new updated Group Privacy Settings - "My Contacts Except..." which lets you choose which contact cannot add you to their group chat.
Note: When you prevent contact from adding you to their group, they will be notified when they try to add you. The notification will prompt the Admin to private invite you through an individual chat, you can choose to join or not. This private invite expires in three days from the day of invitation.
"This allows you to choose to exclude specific contacts or 'select all'. This update is rolling out to users around the world on the latest version of WhatsApp," the company wrote.
To get this new experience, you need to update your WhatsApp to the latest version for Android and iOS i.e Google Play Store and Apple Store respectively.
WhatsApp Updated Group Privacy Settings will not be endorsed by spammers but will be for users who detest being added to irrelevant groups. This new feature now reduces the number of spam groups you are added to, if a contact keeps adding you after several rejections by you, simply use the new WhatsApp "My Contacts Except...".
