Redmi 12 Launched: Unveiling MediaTek Helio G88 SoC, Triple Rear Cameras, and More!

 Redmi 12, the latest smartphone from Xiaomi's brand, was launched in select countries on Friday. The device offers three color options and comes with various RAM and storage configurations. Powered by a MediaTek G88 SoC, the Redmi 12 features a triple rear camera setup led by a 50-megapixel primary sensor. It sports a hole-punch display with a refresh rate of up to 90Hz. The smartphone includes a 5,000mAh battery with support for 18W fast charging.

In terms of pricing, the Redmi 12 starts at EUR 199 (approximately N145000) for the 4GB RAM + 128GB storage model in Europe. In Thailand, it is listed on the Shopee website at THB 5,299 for the 8GB RAM + 128GB storage variant. The price for the top-end variant with 8GB RAM + 256GB storage has not been revealed yet. The available color options are Midnight Black, Polar Silver, and Sky Blue.

In terms of specifications, the Redmi 12 is a dual-SIM (Nano + microSD slot) device running on MIUI 14, based on Android 13. It features a 6.79-inch Full HD+ display with a resolution of 1,080 x 2,460 pixels. The display offers a 1500:1 contrast ratio and a variable refresh rate of up to 90Hz. With an SGS low blue light certificate, the panel covers 70% of the NTSC color gamut and delivers a peak brightness of up to 550 nits. The smartphone is equipped with a MediaTek Helio G88 SoC and up to 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM. Users can virtually expand the built-in RAM up to 16GB using additional inbuilt storage for improved performance.

For photography, the Redmi 12 features an AI-supported triple rear camera setup, including a 50-megapixel primary sensor, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera, and a 2-megapixel macro sensor. On the front, it has an 8-megapixel selfie camera.

In terms of storage, the Redmi 12 offers up to 256GB of eMMC 5.1 inbuilt storage, expandable up to 1TB via a microSD card. Connectivity options include 4G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.3, GPS, glonass, Galileo, Beidou, NFC, FM radio, IR blaster, USB Type-C port, GPS, and a 3.5mm audio jack. The smartphone includes sensors like an accelerometer and e-compass, along with a side-mounted fingerprint sensor and AI face unlock for biometric authentication.

The Redmi 12 is packed with a 5,000mAh battery that supports 18W fast charging. It is claimed to provide up to 37 hours of talk time, up to 23 days of standby time, and up to 26 hours of reading time on a single charge. The device is rated IP53 for dust and water resistance, and it measures 168.60 x 76.28 x 8.17mm and weighs 198.5 grams.
